Final Fantasy 8 Mod Installer

Hey there!

In this setup utility, I gathered the main mods used for Final Fantasy 8 (2013) on Steam and set them all to install automatically (Most of them, more details below).

Brazilian Portuguese Translation (Available at the linked page, no official source is available) - By Joshua Raposa and the ff8br team

The installer was created using Inno Setup, and it uses the standalone 7zip application to extract the mod packages. Besides these mods, the installer also starts a DirectX9 setup and executes the LAA Toggle application (By DrFrugal). This is done so that the modded game has little to no issues (Users of these mods reported crashes, which were fixed by this DirectX version. The LAA Toggle app allows FF8_EN.exe to use up to 4GB of RAM, which helps prevent texture crashes).

I do not intend on gaining anything by this project. I simply saw the opportunity to facilitate mod installation in FF8 and to practice Inno Setup (A valuable resource for software development). Considering that this is a personal project, I do not intend on releasing the source code.

Regarding the Brazilian Portuguese translation, the version added to this installer is my own fixed version of the original. The original translation was made based off a earlier version of FF8. Due to this, one of the files had different contents than the original one, delivered in the 2013 version. I was able to restore these different files, and the result is a translation that works normally with SeedReborn 4.1. I hope it serve you all well!

I hope that, with this mod installer, Final Fantasy 8 can be played by more people. It is a great and unique RPG, and it has marked many lives throughout the years.

KNOWN ISSUES:

The version included of Rebirth Flame will not work properly in the first classroom scene of the game. Rebirth Flame model for Squall will return to the original version after the player accesses the tutorial computer. After finishing with the computer, exit the classroom and the textures will be back to normal. If you need to use the computer again, Squall's textures will not fail again, the issue only happens with the first computer access.

Nesse instalador, reuni a maioria dos mods utilizados para o Final Fantasy 8 (2013) na Steam e ajustei eles para serem instalados automaticamente (A grande maioria, mais detalhes abaixo).

Tradução para o Português Brasileiro (Disponível na página do link, não há fonte oficial no momento) - Por Joshua Raposa e o time ff8br

O instalador foi criado usando Inno Setup, e utiliza a versão standalone do 7zip para extrair os pacotes de mods. Além dos mods, a aplicação inicia o instalador do DirectX9 e também a aplicação LAA Toggle (Do DrFrugal). Isso é feito para neutralizar falhas no jogo com os mods (Usuários dos mods reportaram falhas e crashes que foram solucionados com essa versão de DirectX. O app LAA Toggle permite que o FF8_EN.exe use até 4GB de RAM, o que ajuda a prevenir crashes de textura).

Não pretendo ganhar nada com esse projeto. Simplesmente vi a oportunidade de facilitar o processo de instalação dos mods e estudar Inno Setup (Um recurso muito valioso no desenvolvimento de software). Como é um projeto pessoal meu, não pretendo liberar o código fonte.

A respeito da tradução para o português brasileiro, a versão adicionada ao instalador é a minha versão ajustada da original. A original foi feita com base em uma versão anterior do FF8. Por causa disso, um dos arquivos tinha conteúdo diferente do original, da versão 2013. Consegui restaurar esses arquivos diferentes, e o resultado é uma tradução para o português que funciona normalmente com o SeedReborn 4.1. Espero que te sirva bem!

Espero que, com esse instalador de mods, o Final Fantasy 8 alcance mais pessoas. É um RPG único e incrível, que marcou muitas vidas através dos anos.

PROBLEMAS CONHECIDOS:

As versão incluída do Rebirth Flame não funcionará normalmente na primeira cena da sala de aula do jogo. O modelo do Squall do Rebirth Flame voltará ao original após o jogador acessar o computador do tutorial. Quando terminar de usar o computador, saia da sala de aula e as texturas voltarão ao normal. Se você precisar usar o computador novamente, as texturas do Squall não falharão novamente, o problema só acontece no primeiro acesso ao computador.
